Subject: -      Seminar on Bi-lateral Safeguards Under Pak – China FTA and Trade Remedial Measures

The National Tariff Commission (the “Commission) conducted a seminar at Islamabad Hotel, Islamabad on October 13, 2020 on the above subject. The seminar aimed to create the awareness among members of Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI) and the Trade Associations of the bilateral safeguards under second phase of China –Pak Free Trade Agreements (CPFTA) that provide the domestic industry a level playing filed against unforeseen surge in imports from China.

2. Mrs. Anjum Assad Amin, Member NTC steered the seminar to highlight the following:

(i) Bilateral safeguards under second phase of China –Pak FTA,

(ii) Unfair Trade Practices and Trade Remedy Laws,

(iii) The role of NTC in implementing of Safeguards provisions,

(iv) Monitoring of imports to Pakistan from China by NTC and the future steps.

3. The presentation was followed by interactive discussion and question answer session.

4. Mr. Yasir Ilyas, the President, ICCI who joined the seminar appreciated Commission’s initiative of reaching out to the industry and stakeholders on the subject. He invited the NTC to organize a similar seminar in collaboration with ICCI.
